Jill DiSanti and Maggie Long founded Surf & Sand FHC in 2009 to provide local athletes with year-round, elite training and premier competition opportunities, ensuring a direct and successful path to the collegiate level.

Whether you join our Club Team or compete in one of our Signature Events, our mission is built on three pillars:

  • Hosting our own Signature Tournaments right here at the Jersey Shore, attracting college coaches from across the country.

About Us

Surf & Sand Field Hockey Club was founded on a commitment to high-level training, collegiate exposure, and holistic player development, fostering strong character and leadership skills in young athletes. Our club is led by two of the most experienced and successful field hockey professionals in the region, bringing a wealth of knowledge from collegiate coaching, elite playing, and athletic administration.

Jill DiSanti: Co-Founder & Owner

Jill DiSanti is a nationally recognized field hockey expert with over a decade of experience as a Division I collegiate coach, specializing in program transformation. She is a top-tier recruiter of talent with a proven ability to revitalize rosters. Her dedication as a Defensive and Tactical Specialist has resulted in remarkable success at multiple institutions, including two NCAA Tournament appearances , achieving four consecutive MAAC regular season championships , and the development of multiple conference Players of the Year and Defensive Players of the Year, along with multiple NFHCA National All-Americans. She is also highly adept at utilizing performance analytics and data-based decision making , implementing systems like the Garmin and Polar Heart Rate Monitor data and using tools like Sportscode/Spiideo to optimize performance.

Key Highlights:


Collegiate Division I Coaching Experience: Held positions including Associate Head Coach at Monmouth University was the inaugural Head Coach for the Division program at Wagner College. Also served as an assistant coach at Lafayette College and Quinnipiac University. Total experience includes 17 years of Division I coaching.


National Recognition: Her teams at Monmouth achieved an impressive 32-7 record in her final two seasons as Associate Head Coach and were nationally ranked in the top 25. They earned a top 10 national ranking n multiple statistical categories: Winning Percentage, Goals Against Average, Shutouts per Game, Goals per Game, Assists per Game, Points per Game, Scoring Average, and Scoring Margin.



Player Development: Known for developing numerous All-Conference, All-Region, and National All-Americans.
 In addition she developed the Conference Defensive Player of the Year for five consecutive seasons. Her specialized focus on defensive and tactical excellence means she doesn't just train skills—she develops Field Hockey IQ and fosters the championship mindset required to succeed at the next level.


Playing Career: A standout player at Quinnipiac University, where she was a two-time All-American and helped lead the team to two NCAA tournament appearances and three consecutive Regular Season Championships.  She was also the Team Captain and Most Valuable Player.  Her defensive excellence is honored by the Jill DiSanti Best Defensive Player Award which is presented annually to the teams Best Defensive Player at Quinnipiac. She is also a Quinnipiac Hall of Fame Member.


Maggie Long: Co-Founder & Owner

Maggie Long brings a unique and comprehensive perspective to Surf & Sand FHC, blending elite-level field hockey experience with high-level executive expertise in Athletic Administration and Development. Her background provides an unparalleled, insider's view into the collegiate ecosystem, which is invaluable for guiding our athletes and families through the recruiting and college transition process. She is a high-energy leader dedicated to player success both on and off the field.

Key Highlights:


Collegiate Division I Coaching Experience: A high-energy leader with hands-on coaching success. Maggie spent five seasons as an Assistant Coach for the Monmouth University field hockey program. During her tenure, she helped guide the Hawks to back-to-back Northeast Conference Championship game appearances while the team gained national attention by being listed in the NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. She also coached numerous All-Conference selections. 


Field Hockey & Administration: Excels in both on-field coaching and the administrative side of collegiate athletics, giving her unparalleled insight into the recruiting and college transition process.
 Her dual expertise ensures Surf & Sand FHC athletes receive comprehensive training and strategic guidance that prepares them for both the competitive demands of college athletics and the rigorous application process.


Executive Athletic Administration Leadership: Holds a top-tier executive role, currently serving as the VP & Chief Development Officer, Athletics Development for Rutgers University. This expertise demonstrates an unparalleled insight into strategic planning, fundraising, and the operational side of major Division I athletic departments, ensuring holistic college guidance for our athletes. 


Playing Career: A talented athlete for the College of William and Mary. She served as Team Captain and was honored with the President's Award for excellence in sports, leadership, and commitment. She was also named South Jersey College Player of the Year.
 Her foundation as a decorated athlete provides Surf & Sand players with a coach who has successfully navigated the high-pressure environment of college field hockey at the highest level.
